2011 could be a record year for cruise in Orkney

Usually at this time of year, Orkney Harbours records around 10 to 15 advance bookings for cruise ships for the following season.
For 2011, they already have 53 ships booked to call with the largest being Princess Cruises' ship Crown Princess which has a capacity of 3,599 passengers. She will call at Orkney twice in 2011 anchoring in Kirkwall Bay.
A maiden caller to Orkney will be Holland America Line's Ryndam on 14 July 2011 at 219 metres carrying 1,629 passengers.
In August 2010, Orkney will welcome it's 500,000th cruise ship passenger and celebrations are planned to mark that event.
