Orkneys' Cruise Season Comes to an End
Another very successful cruise ship season for Orkney with 62 port calls and 36,000 passengers has come to an end with the final call by 'Black Watch' at Hatston on the 2 October.
Orkney is still the most popular destination for cruise ships in the UK and with the Cruise around Britain itineraries becoming even more popular, the number of port calls for 2012 is already standing at 62 with 48,000 passengers expected.
Work will begin this year on the extension of Hatston Pier and the 12 month project will be ready in time for the 2013 season. This will allow, (with 380 metres of quay edge) the world's largest liners to be able to come alongside to discharge passengers and will be the longest cruise ship berth in Scotland.
