Princess in the bay
The largest cruise ship in Orkney's 2012 season "Caribbean Princess" arrived in Kirkwall on 21 May from Greenock carrying over 3,000 passengers and 1,000 crew.
Of the 77 cruise ships visiting Orkney this season, "Caribbean Princess" will be calling twice with her second visit in August. All of the main tourist sites were busy all day with coach loads of vistors and the streets of Kirkwall thronged with shoppers and sightseers.
A delegation from Orkney Islands Council led by Convenor Steven Heddle, presented a welcome plaque to the Captain and the group were then treated to a guided tour of the cruise ship.
Orkney remains the most popular cruise ship destination in the United Kingdom and has witnessed a rise of 30% in cruise ship passenger numbers over the past 3 years.
